Nothing to eat or drink after 10pm the night before surgery. o This includes water, gum, candy, mints, etc. Nothing by mouth.
If you take medications for heart, lungs, seizures, high blood pressure or acid reflux please take those in the morning with a small sip of water. If you take them at night, take them as usual.
If you are DIABETIC: o Take half of your normal dose of diabetic medication at night and NO diabetic medication on the morning of surgery. ▪ Example: If you take 10 units of insulin…only take 5 units. ▪ If you take oral medication cut your dose in half.
You may brush your teeth but, do not swallow the water.
No Lotions or Perfumes. Deodorant is OK.
You need a responsible driver to bring you, take you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours.
Plan on being at the Surgery Center for 4-5 hours for the whole procedure.
Please bring a list of current medications.
Leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
Dress comfortably. No tight-fitting clothing.
