Brenda Corona

With a heart full of love for her children, Brenda is determined to keep their world as bright as possible.

Brenda’s breast cancer diagnosis was a complete shock. She had no symptoms, no lumps, and seemingly no reason to be concerned, but a routine mammogram saved her life. As challenging as it can be, Brenda chooses to consider her diagnosis a blessing because it caught the cancer early enough to cure and allows her to live a happy, healthy future.

Getting Through Treatment

Brenda’s recovery has not only been a physical challenge but also an emotional one. Her double mastectomy, coupled with the loss of her hair during treatment, caused insecurities and a [temporary] lost sense of femininity. Looking in the mirror was difficult at first. The reflection she saw was far from what she remembered, but with time she began to favor her new beauty coupled with her courage to persevere.

“Dr. Patel played a key role in my journey. He is informative, confident and lighthearted which made my difficult situation a little easier. The CBCC Radiation team also gave me added hope during visits – Luis, for example, always has a smile on his face, sharing positivity with me and other patients.” All of these things, combined with her family, faith, and resources like Links for Life, brought newfound confidence and encouragement for Brenda.

“My children are my inspiration. I don’t want my kids to live in fear or sadness,” she says. “So, I remain positive and pray every day to stay strong for my family.”

Getting Back to Life

Brenda encourages her peers to ask for help when needed, and accept it when offered. She is determined to implement a volunteer support program for survivors to connect with patients who are active on treatment for added hope and inspiration. She also aims to help secure jobs for patients who can work during their treatment.

As she champions her survivorship journey and advocates for others, Brenda leaves a heartfelt message for all, “keep a positive mindset. If you’re negative, your body will feel it… If you’re positive and reassure yourself that you will get through it, you will. Claim your healing and your blessings.”
