Pre-op Instructions for Placement of Fiducial Markers and/or Space Oar

  • Nothing to eat or drink after 10pm the night before surgery.
    o This includes water, gum, candy, mints, etc. Nothing by mouth.

  • You will need a driver to bring you and take you home after the procedure.

  • You will need to do a Fleets Enema 2 hours prior to your arrival time. Please refer to instructions from Dr. Gorla’s office regarding bowel prep.

  • Bring the other medications that were ordered by Dr. Gorla with you to the surgery center. These will be given to you at the surgery center.
  • If you take medications for heart, lungs, seizures, high blood pressure or acid reflux please take those in the morning with a small sip of water. If you take them at night, take them as usual.

  • If you are DIABETIC:
    o Take half of your normal dose of diabetic medication at night and NO diabetic medication on the morning of surgery.
      ▪ Example: If you take 10 units of insulin…only take 5 units.
      ▪ If you take oral medication cut your dose in half.

  • You may brush your teeth but, do not swallow the water.

  • No lotions or perfumes. Deodorant is ok.

  • Please bring a list of current medications.

  • Leave all jewelry and valuables at home.

  • Dress comfortably. No tight-fitting clothing.
